Overview
Nmap (Network Mapper) is a free, open source tool for network discovery, port scanning, and security auditing. It maps live hosts, open ports, running services, and OS fingerprints, and extends through the Nmap Scripting Engine. Canadian network admins and penetration testers use it for inventory, exposure checks, and reconnaissance. It was created by Gordon Lyon (Fyodor) and is maintained through the Nmap Project.
